We are happy to receive an update for sweet Joanna who was born December of 2017. The report is from November of 2022 and says the following: Joanna is able to sit with support. She feeds on pureed food from a bottle. She can also eat with a spoon but very slowly and because so many children need feeding assistance at the center, she rarely has the opportunity to try. She sleeps in a crib in a room with two other children and sleeps well. Joanna takes a nap after her lunch but if she is tired she is allowed to sleep any time of the day. She likes to kick her legs and wave her arms. She can turn from her back to her stomach. When she is on her stomach, she manages to keep her head upright. She’s comfortable meeting strangers. Joanna doesn’t respond when her name is called. She doesn’t speak but sometimes makes a sound resembling the word “no.” Joanna is in a diaper. There is no problem when she is bathed. She enjoys individual attention. In general, there is nothing being done to occupy her attention, but when we gave her a musical toy, she listened to the sound and turned in the direction of the sound. She does not have good grip with her hands but uses her right hand most often for reaching. Joanna is said to work with a rehabilitator but we are told this only happens on rare occasions. Joanna likes to spend time outside.
Our Bulgarian staff report: “We hope that Joanna will find her forever family to love and care for her. She is an exceptional, sunny child and with the proper care, support, and work with specialists we believe she can make good progress in her development despite her diagnoses. We hope that her family will find her soon and provide her with the care and love she is lacking.
