Description
Meet Sarah!
*Sarah just turned 12 and was adopted internationally. She has diagnoses for Down Syndrome and Autism spectrum disorder. Her family does not have adequate services where they live to address her needs successfully and they have exhausted every possible lead. They are seeking another adoptive home for her who has access to resources for Sarah as well as no children smaller than her that she may harm accidentally. Sarah is very petite—she weighs 60 lbs and is 4’1”.
We are partnering with Sarah’s family to find a family who can better meet her needs. This family should have strong support from their family, social circle and community to help Sarah reach her potential. Second Chance requires our adopting families to have a current homestudy or one that can be easily updated (in less than 3 weeks). If this fits your family and you are interested in adopting Sarah, please write to us for her full profile. We have lots of great information to share with you about this little girl’s need for a different home. Write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Sarah loves music, jumping, swinging, dancing, clapping, spinning and giving high-5’s. She is content and happiest during her routine. She knows each step and is helpful during activities. She likes to have a purpose and know each step of an activity so she can participate. Example: when she helps mom in the laundry room, she knows to take the clothing handed to her and put them in the dryer. She enjoys school and watching movies and tv with lots of music (Disney plus, or anything animated with lots of music). With guidance, Sarah can pick up and put away her toys. She can do many tasks related to her daily routine including putting on her those (when mom sets them out for her), pulling her pants and pullup down to get on the toilet, getting into and out of the car seat (can put her arms into the straps but needs help actually buckling). Sarah requires some assistance with eating, diapering, bathing, putting on shoes, brushing hair and teeth. She will bring you her shoes and hairbrush as part of her daily routine. Sarah thrives with a consistent routine. She enjoys the school year because of the set routine every day.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, OR, NY, WI or DE. If you live in WI, please let us know, as the adoption process may be longer and a bit more expensive than what is listed in our paperwork. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started! If you are a U.S. citizen living overseas, we may be able to work with you depending on a few details.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
