Description
*Meet Madeline!
*Madeline is 9 years old and was adopted internationally. Madeline’s special needs were far greater than what they were aware of when she joined her adopted family. After many years of trying to make it work, they just don’t feel they are able to give her the level of care and support she needs to thrive. As she has gotten older, she has demanded more and more of their time and support such that it has negatively impacted the other children in the home. Her adopted parents feel they are failing to give her what she needs to thrive and be happy. They have partnered with Second Chance to find a new adoptive home for Madeline. We are looking for a two-parent home or single parent home (with a strong support network) to adopt Madeline. Madeline needs to see a pediatric cardiologist annually as well as going to a children’s hospital for dental care (she does not like the dentist and is uncooperative without sedation). Due to her health, her current family feels that keeping up with vaccinations will be important for her and they would prefer a family who is not against vaccinations. Second Chance requires that an adoptive family have a current private homestudy, or one that can be updated within 3 weeks. If you fit these requirements and would like to be considered for Madeline’s adoption, please write to us and ask for her full profile. We have lots of info to send you about this little girl. Please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Madeline’s absolute favorite thing in the world is to listen to music. She wants to have music playing 24/7 around her. She does not wear headphones, so whatever music she’s listening to, you are listening to also! She especially likes upbeat music like pop and techno (workout) music. They have “Madeline” playlists on spotify! She also likes watching movies with music in them. She likes to bounce on the trampoline, swim with a lifejacket, explore new places, play on playground toys, swing and play physical games such as being chased around the yard. In the past year, she has increasingly enjoyed spending time in her room independently playing with toys and objects that interest her. She prefers toys that make sounds or play music and enjoys anything that is visually interesting (looking through silly glasses, peering through small holes in a surface, play mirrors, etc.). She is especially fond of electronic toys for toddler-age children designed to teach language and play music or animal sounds. When her needs are being met, Madeline is generally a sweet, cheerful and happy kid. She likes to give ‘high-fives’ and has a wonderful belly laugh! She has a friendly disposition. The mantra for keeping her happy is ‘meal-music’…if she’s eaten and has music, she will probably be fine all day.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, WI or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you live in WI or FL, please let us know, as the adoption process may be longer and a bit more expensive than what is listed in our paperwork. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started! If you are a U.S. citizen living overseas, we may be able to work with you depending on a few details.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you
