We would like you to meet sweet Gregory. Gregory was born in August of 2010. He is generally healthy but has some intellectual delays including speech and language. Our staff member from Bulgaria who met him said that Gregory is an extremely good-natured, loving, and positive child. Their report from December of 2023 also said the following:
When we first met Gregory, it took some time for him to relax and start feeling comfortable in our company. He felt best when we went outside without the staff of the village to take some pictures of him. During the conversation with him he was obviously feeling a little tense but answered all our questions and was very nice and polite. What made an impression on me was that Gregory understood everything he was asked, but for some questions (harder questions or where he was feeling uncertain in the answer) he was hesitant when answering. My impression was that he was afraid not to give a wrong answer.
Gregory likes going to school. He said that he feels good there and that he likes all the subjects especially math and arts. I asked him some math questions and his level of knowledge is low, but he knows some of the multiplication tables. He shared that he has two good friends in school that he plays with and that they love to wrestle with each other.
He lives in a house with a foster mother and his older sister (who is going to turn 18 on 15th of December and will have to leave the village). Gregory is aware of that fact but did not want to share his emotions about it. He is obviously attached to his sister. He shared that she cooks very tasty things like banitsa (a pastry dish with cheese), soups and other things for the family. He is also attached to the foster mother and has been with her for a long time. He has his own room and has some chores in the home. He helps set the table and throws out the garbage. He also said that he chooses his own clothes and dresses himself. He can put on and off his shoes but can’t tie his laces. He said he wanted to do that as well. As he is alone in a room, we asked him whether he was afraid of the dark and he said no, and that he was not afraid of anything : ).
Gregory loves dogs! In the house they have a cat and Gregory takes care of the cat. On our questions how he takes care of the cat, he said that he plays with it : ) Gregory loves to eat pizza – he said he would eat pizza every day if he could.
Gregory knows the seasons and can describe them. He knows how old he is and that his sister is turning 18. He does not know the exact date of his birthday but knows it is in the summer. He described to us how they celebrated his birthday this year. He knows the concepts and understands under, over, front, back and side.
On our question whether he wanted to be adopted, he said that he wanted very much to have his family forever. He knows he would be adopted without his sister and said that he hopes that he would be able to stay in touch with his sister. He also said he was ok to be adopted and live abroad.
Personal impressions:
From the words of the staff of the village and my personal impression, Gregory has a predominantly positive mood. He has no aggression or auto-aggression. He understands the rules in the house and follows them. He is attached to the foster mother and his sister and can easily attach to a new family. He loves children and gets along especially well with younger children. He has a big heart and is really a precious child that would be a perfect addition to a family! He needs a loving and caring home, where he can grow up and advance. We pray that his family forever finds him soon! For more information contact kathy@wiaa.org. Grant funding is available in the amount of $2500 for qualifying families.
