Description
Meet Flora!
*Flora is 5 years old and was adopted internationally. Her medical needs were not honestly shared with the family before the adoption and they are hoping to find a better prepared family with no younger children who can meet her needs and continue to help her grow. Second Chance has partnered with Flora’s family to find a new adoptive family with no other children under age 8 and a current (or easily updated) home-study. We will consider families who are Christian and have access to quality healthcare and a variety of pediatric medical professionals. Flora’s new family will need to prepare a handicap accessible home and vehicle. If you fit this need, and are interested in being considered for her adoption, please write us back and ask for her ‘full profile’. Write to us at secondchancinfo@wiaa.org .
She has cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus although up to now no medical intervention has been needed for hydrocephalus. She uses a wheelchair and walker for mobility.
Flora can be very engaging and friendly. As you can see by her pictures, she has expressive eyes and a wide bright smile that can light up a room. She especially loves the Disney character Moana and tries to sing along with the songs in that movie. Her favorite color is pink. Her adopted mom says she has a contagious belly laugh. She enjoys turning pages in board books and hugging her plush Moana doll. She has not yet graduated to independent play, but does like to drive cars and trucks around and make noises like ‘vroom’. She can also stack tobbles (you’ll see these weighted cups in one of her videos). She also likes to pretend to eat play food.
Flora loves to eat chicken noodle soup and will eat it regularly with a spoon (she can also feed herself yogurt). She drinks from a munchkin 360 sippy cup (which allows her to drink from any side of it without spilling). Pizza and pretzels are a favorite treat for her too! She used to have quite a few food sensitivities but has outgrown them all in the last year.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.
