*Stella is 8 years old and was adopted from Asia 4 years ago. Stella has Osteogenesis Imperfecta VI also known as brittle bone disease (there are many forms of this; hers is VI which only occurs in long bones like her arms or legs.) Second Chance is looking for a new adoptive family for Stella preferably with no other children under 12 and access to a pediatric orthopedist (for her OI).
Stella loves to help people. She wants to be engaged with whatever is going on and “help” with household chores. She is a people-person and loves being near people and engaged in a topic. She enjoys coloring and drawing and is a good artist who tends toward perfectionism. Stella has good fine motor skills and enjoys making necklaces and other things with beads. She also enjoys building with Legos, blocks and puzzles. Stella likes to wear her hair long with clips or flowers in it. Her favorite colors are pink and purple. She is a great eater, and especially loves pizza, chips and desserts. She HATES olives (black and green)! She enjoys playing board games and reading Dr. Seuss books. Stella is very independent and doesn’t need/want help with any things. She has good personal hygiene skills.
Stella struggles with being violent towards mother figures. One recent placement attempt ended because she did that to the new mother.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state for finalization of this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But, we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.
