Description
Meet Shea!
*Shea turned 7 in May and was adopted internationally. She has severe delays that were not revealed during the adoption process and her family is hoping that there is another adoptive family better equipped to care for this little girl. Please write us at secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org for her ‘full profile’ if you’d like to consider adopting Shea.
Shea has been diagnosed with Autism. She has epileptic seizures which are considered part of the Autism Disorder. Shea requires full time care—she is unable to feed, clothe or bathe herself and does not communicate her needs in any way. She is mobile, she can walk and climb, but needs to have all of her needs anticipated—if she is hungry or needs to have a diaper changed, she cannot tell you. Shea is reported by her parents to be a gentle and easy-going child. She mostly makes happy noises that sound like “yoee-yoee-yoee”. She eats and sleeps well.
Shea is on a no-sugar, high-fat diet. She is also gluten and dairy free (except for butter).
Shea is going to need a very special adoptive family. She will need access to a school who has special needs classrooms for low-functioning children. Access to OT, PT and speech are going to be very important! The new family should either have access to these through their community, or private access via good coverage insurance. Second Chance requires that Shea’s new family have no other children under age 9. Shea’s family is also requiring that her new family be Evangelical Christian.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. If you have never had a homestudy done before, we cannot help you adopt this child. We would love to tell you how to get started with a homestudy so you can be considered in the future for another child. Please write to us! Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, OR, or DE.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.
Contact us at secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org if you think you would like to adopt Shea. We would love to share her full profile with you and our process for being approved for a Second Chance adoption.
