Description
*Meet Reece!
*Reece is 9 years old and was adopted domestically. The family who adopted her was relationally close to the foster family where Reece lived since birth. Due to the close relationship between the foster and adoptive families, Reece has been unable to move forward and leave early trauma behind. Often with a ‘kinship’ adoption, the child is never given a chance to leave behind the trauma triggers and is unable to heal. Reece has actually voiced her view of the two family’s closeness. Often, secure attachment is not possible for a child who associates their current family with their abusive past. Even with years of therapy, and cutting off all contact with family of origin, Reece has been unable to let down her guard and bond to this family. They have made the very difficult decision, with the encouragement of several therapists, to find a different adoptive family for Reece. One that can give her the clean break—fresh start—that she desperately needs and deserves.
We are looking for a new adoptive home for Reece that has no other children in the home under age 12. Any boys in the home must be emotionally healthy. We will consider a single mom if she has strong male role models to interact with Reece. Reece has some early trauma with males and needs to work on healthy communication and interactions.
Second Chance requires that our adoptive families have a current private homestudy for this kind of adoption. If this fits you, and you’re interested in adopting Reece, please write us for her full profile. Write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org . If your homestudy needs updating, please find out how long it will take for an update. If you do not have a homestudy, we cannot help you adopt this child, but would love to share with you how to obtain one so you can adopt in the future. Please write to us!
Reece loves running and riding her bike. She enjoys time with animals and has enjoyed opportunities to interact with dogs and cats. She loves spending time fixing her hair and making jewelry with found and repurposed items. One of her favorite activities is drawing. She enjoys all kinds of arts and crafts and has expressed interest in becoming an art teacher when she grows up. She really enjoys singing for her own pleasure (but not for command performances). Her adopted parents describe her as a physically active, outgoing, friendly, creative, charismatic, and competitive child. Reece likes to try to make people laugh. She’s often described as a “natural leader”. Her favorite color is red and she has a sweet tooth! She tends to be more on the messy side rather than organized. Her adopted mom told us that she has the skills to be neat and organized, but left to herself, she chooses to be more relaxed in her environment and care of belongings. She is able to take care of all self-care activities for herself.
Reece is capable of independent play and solitary down-time. She enjoys drawing, art projects, making jewelry, writing stories, dancing, cartwheels, and singing, and had no problem occupying herself.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you live in WI, please let us know, as the adoption process may be longer and a bit more expensive than what is listed in our paperwork. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started! If you are a U.S. citizen living overseas, we may be able to work with you depending on a few details.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
