Description
Meet Maddie!
*Maddie is 20 months old and was adopted internationally.
Maddie has had one surgery to repair a cleft lip and palate, she will likely need several more as she grows. Genetic testing recently revealed that she also has Deletion Syndrome on chromosome 16. This deletion has a large range of disabilities and because Maddie is so young, it is unknown what the severity of her disability will be. If you’re unfamiliar with this deletion, please do some research on it!
Maddie is reported to be a ‘pleasant, content, and easy-going baby’ who wants to be a part of the group, but often seems to be in her own world. She smiles, claps, waves, and mimics peek-a-boo. She rarely fusses or cries.
Maddie was crawling when she first came home and has progressed to walking. She is a bit unsteady on her feet, but can walk without holding on to anything. She has also made gains in other areas such as being able to hold a bottle herself. Maddie is a good eater and will feed herself whatever food is being served.
Maddie’s adoptive family is hoping to find a new adoptive family for her who feels prepared and capable of meeting whatever her future holds, including the potential for lifelong care. Her neurologic and behavioral future abilities are unknown. Her new family should be prepared for Maddie to not progress much further than she is now. She will need ongoing access to physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as continued visits with a cranio-facial team to follow her as she grows (due to lip/palate repairs). Second Chance is requiring that Maddie’s new adoptive family have no other children under age 6.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. If you have never had a home study done before, we cannot help you adopt this child. We would love to tell you how to get started with a home study so you can be considered in the future for another child. Please write to us! Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, OR, or DE.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.
