Meet Lane!

*Lane is 7.5 years old and was adopted internationally on his 5th birthday.  Some adoption stories are just a sad series of events that are beyond anyone’s control.  In Lane’s case, he was adopted into a two-parent home with one younger adopted boy. Soon after, his adopted mom became pregnant with a high-risk pregnancy that required constant medical monitoring.  She suffered extreme health problems (including seizures) during the entire pregnancy.  Adopted dad had several job changes and worked very long hours, leaving the sick mom home with two very young children (including Lane who had not yet attached to the family successfully).  

As with many adopted children, Lane struggled with attachment to his adopted mom from the very beginning, and all the life struggles just added to it.   As mom’s attention was spread to the younger adopted child as well as the difficult pregnancy and then new baby, Lane began to act out more and more.  His family has made the decision to work with Second Chance to find a new adoptive family for Lane where he can be the youngest (something that we always recommend for our adopted children).  If you have no other children under age 10 in your family, and a current (or easily updated) home study, and are interested in learning more about adopting Lane, please write back to us at secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org and ask for his ‘additional info’.  We have more records to send you as well as info on being pre-approved for a Second Chance adoption.  Please write to us!

Lane now lives with a grandmother and has not shown any adoption related behavior or problems there which lead us to believe that in a new family, he would do well.

Lane’s adopted family tells us he is outgoing, affectionate, curious and friendly.  He is always smiling and likes to give hugs and hold hands when walking somewhere.   Lane likes to sing along to music.  His favorite thing to do is be a helper—he loves to vacuum, dust, water plants, and mop the floor—he just beams when praised for his work.

Lane also likes to take things apart and put them back together again.  He has a screwdriver set that he uses to disassemble and reassemble toys.  He also enjoys art—especially painting crafts and sewing on buttons.  He is a book-lover and enjoys all kinds of books.  His favorites are by Dr. Seuss—Green Eggs and Ham is his ultimate favorite book of all time and he can read it himself.  He has good retention and retelling skills—he remembers all the details.  Lane is in the 1st grade and does well academically.

Lane doesn’t seem to care for animals much.  His family has a large dog that he mostly ignores.  Lane prefers a predictable weekly schedule:  he’s up at 645a, eats at regular mealtimes and goes to bed by 9pm.  He is an early riser, so even on the weekends he’s up by 730.  “Bath, book, bed” is his evening mantra!

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.  Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, or DE.  If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child.  But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future.  Please write to us and ask us how to get started!

Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.
