Description
Meet James!
*James turned 4 in late 2021 and was adopted through foster care. Second Chance is looking for a two-parent family for James who has a current home study (or one that can be quickly updated) and no other children in the home under age 8-9. If a family demonstrates experience with autism spectrum disorder and Down’s Syndrome, we will consider families with children as young as 6 or 7. James would do best with a full-time stay at home parent who can work one on one with him until all necessary therapies are lined up in their area. He needs to have ongoing speech, occupational and physical therapy, as well as behavioral (ABA) therapies in school as he gets older. If you think your family may be a good fit for this little boy, please write to us and request his full profile. This little boy had a very rough start to life and the current family has worked very hard to bring him this far. We are partnering with them to find the perfect family to continue the work James needs to be his most successful self. Please write to us at secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
James likes to play with water with his hands. He likes music (country, gospel, and piano), and will play with his musical set (mostly bang it around) but does seem to enjoy the sounds. James is a carnivore and loves eating tri-tip, steak, ribs, and chicken. He likes watching the fireplace in the winter time. He will ask to try the plums, apples, and grapes in the family orchard when in season. He likes to sit in the shade in (soft) grass touching and exploring (now that they have helped him handle the texture of grass via sensory integration). He enjoys going to the park. He likes riding horses with help and lying in the hammock on a nice day with slight swing motion if not over stimulated.
James knows his colors, numbers up to 10, many words in sign language and working on being independent with many of his daily tasks.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, or DE. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started! We are only able to work with US citizens living abroad if they are active duty military.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
