URGENT! We desperately need a family for handsome Sterling. He will age out of the system on June 29, 2024. Sterling is considered healthy and was born June of 2008. Please read the information from our Bulgarian staff who met him. The information is from December 2023 and says the following:
We met Sterling at the Center where he has been living for just a year. Information from his social worker and the director of the Center say that Sterling is an adaptive boy. He has already become used to the new place and people. He has changed a lot since he came to the Center both physically and emotionally. He shows great improvement with his emotions, communication, and behavior. He is responsible at school and in the Center, and they can rely on him. He has a trust relationship with his caretaker, who is a man. While living at the previous Children’s Village, Sterling was placed with a special education resource teacher. He has, however, overcome his delays and is no longer considered a child with special educational needs. He no longer uses a resource teacher.
From speaking with Sterling, we obtained the following information:
He moved into a new school this year. It is a Radio technical school, and his specialty is Electrical equipment of cars. Before that he was studying in a Building technical school with a specialty in Geodesy, and he liked it very much, but the class did not accept him (most likely as he was coming from an institution) and that is why they moved him to this new school. He said that the environment in the new school is better compared to the old school. He likes languages and now he is studying Russian and some English. The most difficult subject in school is math. He said that there is nobody at the Center to help him with math, so he is coping on his own. Academically he is doing well and right now he has received maximum grades on 3 subjects. In his spare time, he likes to play on the computer and go to fitness although he does not have the opportunity often for that. He likes to watch movies, especially Marvel movies.
In the Center they had a curfew of 9.30 pm and Sterling was never late. He said he was following the rules. Sterling said that he does not go out with friends very often. He has not met many friends, having only been at the school for a year. He has some friends in the Center and is especially close to a girl who also came from his Children’s Village. He said that he had many more friends while living in the old, smaller town.
In the Center he has obligations including cleaning his room and the common areas like kitchen, bathroom etc. He has not learned to cook yet. He likes to eat almost everything and is not picky – he particularly does not like chicken. His favorites are lentils, beans, doner kebab, spaghetti, and meat.
When he grows up, he dreams of working in the area of building. For Christmas he is dreaming of getting fitness equipment like dumbbells for example, so he can train in the center.
We talked about friendship and whether he trusts others. He said that a friend is a person whom you can trust and whom you respect. On the question about trust, he said that he trusts his close people.
Personal impressions:
My impression is that this is a great boy who deserves and dreams of living in a family environment. He wants to be adopted very much but knows his time is running out as he is almost 16. I believe that this boy has a lot to give to a family and a family has a lot to give to this boy. I felt that he was feeling a little bit lonely in the new town – having just a few friends and not socializing and going out a lot. When asked about his future, he said that he has no idea or plans at this point. I felt how difficult it is for him growing up without the support of a family or somebody to guide him according to his best interest. Sterling definitely needs the love and support of a family, and somebody to believe in him. I pray that his forever family finds him soon! For more information contact kathy@wiaa.org. Grant funding in the amount of $2500 is available for qualifying families.
