Description
Meet Nova!
*Nova turned 4 in August (2019) and was adopted domestically when she was 13 months old. She was adopted into a family with 3 boys older than her and has struggled with jealousy toward the one closest to her age ever since the adoption. Her treatment of him has become impossible to handle, and coupled with her anger toward the adopted mom, her family has reached out to us to help them find a more appropriate family for her. Nova needs to be adopted into a home with no other children under the age of 8. Her family will consider either a traditional two-parent home or a single mom with a good support network who has either a current homestudy or one that can be quickly updated. If you fit these requirements and are interested in adopting this child, please write to us for her ‘full profile’ and to learn more about being preapproved for a Second Chance adoption. Please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Nova is a girly-girl who wants to be a ballerina (she would love to take ballet classes!) She likes to dress up in princess dresses and the little plastic high heels that come with them. She enjoys wearing jewelry and having her hair done (she is specific about wanting braids or ponytails). Her cousin has straight hair, so sometimes she wants her hair straightened too! She likes to cuddle while watching princess movies. She likes to be tickled and cuddled (on her own terms). She loves to laugh and does so often. Nova likes to help in the kitchen with fixing food. She prefers to play outside (if given the choice) and enjoys riding her scooter, kicking a soccer ball and climbing on the playground. She reports that her favorite colors are “yellow and red and purple and pink”! If she could, she would eat fruit all the time—it is her favorite! She likes to sing and dance to Disney and Christian music.
Nova isn’t in school yet, but she knows her colors and shapes and can count to 10. She is starting to learn the alphabet and practice the letter sounds that her older (not adopted) 5–year–old brother is learning in school. She likes to look at books by herself, and prefers that her adopted mom NOT read them to her.
Nova is toilet trained day and night. She eats and sleeps well and has no dietary restrictions other than keeping her sugar intake low to help with her behaviors.
Nova is safe around animals but has a fear of large dogs, so if you have any, please be prepared to slowly introduce her to them.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, OR or DE. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But, we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
