Description
Meet Mateo!
*Mateo just turned 7 and was adopted internationally from an Asian country. We are looking for a new adoptive family with a current (or easily updated) home-study and no other kids in the home under age 11. This new family needs to have faith in God in a mainstream religion and attend church regularly as well has have regular church involvement. Mateo has a relationship with God and really enjoys going to church with his family. Please write us back for his ‘full profile’ if you’d like to know more about Mateo and our adoption process. Please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Mateo’s adoptive family told us that he is a natural leader who often uses his skills to make new friends easily in school. He is adventurous to try new things. He is a good eater and loves to try new foods. He is curious about how things work and likes to make things. He is always busy playing sports with his friends (flag football, basketball, baseball and floor hockey) and going on bike rides with family. Mateo is a boy’s boy—active and energetic. He also can sit quietly building Legos or reading books. He is an artistic and visual kid, enjoying books with pictures. He is not afraid of going to new places. His good sense of humor is well regarded by peers and teachers at school. He is affectionate and sweet. He is a prankster/jokester who likes to make people laugh. His nature is to kid around, joke; relaxed and fun. He frequently embellishes stories to draw people in and entertain people. Mateo loves pizza and mac & cheese. He does well with a schedule, but also needs unstructured ‘free time’ for activities. He easily occupies himself.
Mateo is in the 1st grade and has a lot of positive comments on his report card from his teachers. He does well in all subjects and is at grade level. He especially loves to write and draw pictures in his school journal of his daily activities. He is well liked by teachers and peers in school and really enjoys going.
Mateo sleeps well at night and is always dry. He has never had any urination or defecation issues. According to his parents, he has never acted out sexually in any way.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will
need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
