Description
Meet Anna!
*Anna just turned 9 and was adopted internationally when she was 6. She had a very traumatic introduction to her adoptive family and it has permanently affected her relationship with them. They have tried everything they can think of to help her overcome the feeling of being kidnapped but nothing has helped. They feel that starting over in a new adoptive home will give Anna the chance to form a healthy attachment and blossom into the healthy, happy child she is supposed to be. We are looking for a traditional family for Anna who has no other children in their home under the age of 13 and is Evangelical Christian (no LDS please). Anna loves to read Bible stories and sing songs about Jesus. She is learning to have a personal relationship with Him and loves Him. Anna was born with Spina Bifida, so she will need ongoing access to appropriate medical support. Second Chance requires that families have a current (or easily updated) homestudy in order to adopt from the program. If this fits your family and you are interested in being considered for her adoption, please write to us for her full profile. We have more information to share with you about this child and also our process of being preapproved for a Second Chance adoption. Please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Anna loves music and is often making up her own songs or singing along to the radio (even if she doesn’t know the song). We think she would do really well learning an instrument! Anna also likes to help in the kitchen and is always asking to help cook/bake. She must be supervised though, as she will often “help” without asking first and that can make for some interesting recipes! She likes to be outside – riding her bike, jumping on the trampoline, helping in the garden, or playing with the neighborhood kids. She doesn’t yet have the ability to entertain herself, so she relies on having others around to play with. She also LOVES to play games and is very quick to pick up the strategy; she is also highly competitive. Anna really enjoys puzzles and is very good at them. This is one area where she will sit and focus for long periods of time. She is very meticulous when she colors and really likes to do arts and crafts. She is competent with self-care, although she needs a few reminders or monitoring during shower or brushing teeth.
Her adopted parents tell us Anna is a super joyful kid, adventurous, brave, tough, excited to try new things as long as someone safe is with her, up for a challenge, and shows no fear of new things. She is very smart and picks up new things quickly. She enjoys reading and being read to. She is always asking to help with something—setting the table, helping with laundry. She is a natural leader and people gravitate toward her.
Anna is in the 2nd grade and loves school! She is very smart and picked up English very quickly. Music and recess are her favorite subjects, although she is good at addition and subtraction too.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
