Description
Meet Zander!
Zander is 8 years old and was adopted domestically. He has healed from much of his early childhood trauma, but has exhausted his adoptive family in his healing process. He deserves a family where he can be celebrated as the youngest (which was his original birth place) and receive all the special attention that is bestowed on the ‘baby’ of the family. We are looking for a quiet, homebody-type traditional 2 parent family for him with a current (or easily updated) homestudy and no other children in the home under age 10. He has done exceptionally well in the current homeschool environment (due to COVID), so a homeschooling family (or stay at home parent) would be a huge plus for Zander! Please write to us at secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org and request his full profile if you would like to learn more about Zander and why he needs a different adoptive family.
Zander loves working with his hands to build things and figure out how things work. He will spend large amounts of time focused on puzzles, Legos and problem-solving games. He completes 500-piece puzzles and Lego sets with ease. Like most boys his age, he is drawn to action and adventure in story books, video games, and movies. He especially enjoys stories about superheroes. Zander is always excited to try something new and shows little fear or resistance when new situations or people are presented to him. He loves roller coasters, swimming (he’s a strong swimmer) and big water slides. Zander appreciates praise on his performance and his appearance. His two biggest pleasures are food and his hair. He takes extra time and pays careful attention to styling his hair and how it looks during the day. He also loves all types of food, with ribs and pot pies being his favorite. Zander never meets a stranger and will often be the first to engage children in a park to play. He is very confident in the school environment and his personality really blossoms when he is in the classroom or after school activities. He is a quick learner who picks up new skills quickly. He is a model student who works hard to earn good grades.
When we asked his adopted parents to tell us about Zander, they said, “he is energetic, highly intelligent, and friendly. He thrives in a relaxed schedule with consistency. He is ambitious when given a clear goal and confidence to achieve that goal. He is creative when he has the opportunity to work with his hands. He is courageous and willing to face challenges or the unknown when he feels confidant and has the skills or information needed. He is resilient and has overcome many challenges and setbacks in his life. He is a friend to all. He loves to make new friends and people are naturally attracted to his personality”.
If you fit the profile we’re looking for, please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org and ask to see Zander’s full profile. We would love to share more about this child and what kind of home we think he will thrive in.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, OR, or DE. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
