Description
Meet Vanna!
Vanna is 8 years old and was adopted internationally. She has not formed a healthy attachment to her adopted family and they are making the very difficult decision to find a better fitting home for her where she can let down her guard and connect with a family. Her first adopted family visited her more than 30 times from her birth until her adoption at age 5. They were invested in her life and making sure she was safe and cared for, and received medical aid for the trauma she went through during birth. What they didn’t realize is that each time they left her and returned to the States, she learned that they were not people she could depend on to be the constant in her life that every young child needs. She does not trust them or rely on them to care for her. She is hyperalert at all times. We are hopeful that in a new, different family setting, she will let her guard down and bond successfully. Vanna is a high energy, deep thinking child who would do best in a home with no other children under age 11. She may do really well with a single mom who can devote all her energy and attention to Vanna. If you have a current or easy-to-update homestudy and no other children in your home under age 11, please write to us and request Vanna’s full profile. We’d love to send you more info about this child as well as information on being preapproved for a Second Chance adoption. Please write to secondchanceinfo@wiaa.org .
Vanna’s adopted family tells us she is an AWESOME kid. She is hilarious, intelligent, inquisitive, inspiring, STRONG, passionate, and dedicated. As much as they have difficulties with her behavior, they are absolutely heart-broken that the attachment issues taking place have resulted in the need for this process. “Vanna is probably the strongest person I have ever known”, states her adopted mom. “I have long been inspired by how brave she is.” She’s creative, and interested in learning how things work. She often talks about what she wants to be, and those dreams are not what most little girls might say. She has talked about wanting to be a Locksmith or a Master Plumber. She knows that being a plumber is an important trade job, but more so she knows that being a female Master Plumber is smart because she will have the opportunity to strategically place herself in a position of trust with other women to compete for business. She’s athletic and spunky, always full of energy. She loves Broadway plays and traveling. She loves to ski, and sled and tube. She loves to travel and will get very excited about checking into a hotel! When she doesn’t have a book or a something to color in her hands, she might be blowing bubbles. She also loves to clean and sweep. She loves to learn especially by reading, energetic and talkative.
Vanna is going into 3rd grade, working a hybrid schooling system this year of home and online. She mostly receives B’s for her work and will work hard to bring up a grade if needed.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state for finalization of the adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
