*Shaun is 8 ½ and was adopted internationally. As with many of our Second Chance kids, he has not attached to his first adoptive family and has won’t interact with them or consider them as his family since the time of his adoption. He shows great behavior outside of his adoptive home which is our strongest indication that he will do well in a new home. Kids like this nearly always leave the negativity behind with that first adoptive family. So we are working with his adopted parents to find a new adoptive family for him where he can bond successfully and grow. We are looking for a new adoptive family who has a current (or easily updated) home study and no other children under age 11 in the home. If you are interested in learning more about Shaun and our adoption process please write us at [email protected] and ask for his full profile. We’d love to share more with you! Please write to us!
When asked to describe Shaun, his adopted parents told us that he is very kind to new people and younger kids. He is an avid reader (reads at grade level 2 or perhaps a bit ahead), and prefers a good book over anything else. He enjoys Magic Treehouse, Big Nate and facts-based books. He enjoys reading many kinds of chapter books and always tests well on memory of what he’s read. He has great comprehension and memory. He enjoys riding his bike and trying various sports, although he does not have great physical coordination yet. Shaun enjoys playing both card and board games. Shaun enjoys music (all kinds) and sings along to any song on the radio. He has a good voice and remembers the lyrics to just about every song he hears! He has a strong determination to accomplish things and enjoys the feeling of mastering something independently. He likes to help with simple chores around the house and outside if asked.
Shaun is most comfortable with a structured schedule and environment. On the weekends, if not given a clear schedule, he sometimes flounders for what to do. It would be best if his new adoptive family were also structured rather than too laid back and relaxed.
Shaun is good at some self-care such as brushing his teeth and getting dressed. He does not shower regularly unless reminded (like most 8 yr old boys!!) He is a neat and clean boy, preferring organization over messiness. He makes his bed every day without being reminded and keeps his room and belongings organized. He prefers structure and a set schedule and will keep himself on schedule.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But, we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started!
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits,

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
