*Poppy is 8 years old and was adopted internationally.
A $4,000 grant has been placed on this adoption to cover the agency fee and will be available as a refund once her new adoption is finalized.
Poppy has attached well to her adoptive family and gets along with the other children. However, she was exposed to harmful situations before her adoption and does not understand how to interact safely with males (she was raised by a single grandma and mom as well as being exposed in the orphanage to inappropriate behaviors between men and women). Poppy needs to be adopted into a home with a single mom (with a strong support system), or a traditional 2 parent home where any males (father and/or older boys) understand her confusion and are comfortable laying down appropriate boundaries right from the start.
We will consider families for Poppy who have no other children under age 11, and if there are any boys in the home, they need to be older teens who are emotionally healthy and told ahead of time about her confusion and are able/willing to help her learn appropriate boundaries between males and females.
Poppy enjoys going to church and having a relationship with God, so we are asking that her new family be Bible-believing, church-attending protestant Christian.
Second Chance requires that every adoptive family have a current private homestudy in order to adopt. If you need a homestudy update, let us know—we may still be able to work with you. If you’ve never had a homestudy before, we cannot help you adopt this child, but we would love to share the process of starting a homestudy with you so you can adopt soon. If you fit what we’re looking for, for Poppy, please write to us for her full profile. We have lots of info to share with you about this little girl and her need for a different adoptive home. Write to firstname.lastname@example.org .
Poppy loves horses—Breyer horses to play with, books about horses…and she dreams of riding a horse someday. She enjoys playing family with her dolls and doing their hair. She has a collection of Calico Critters that have helped her develop her imaginative play abilities. She enjoys the beach and collecting shells. Poppy loves playing at the park, going for walks or runs, jumping rope and pretty much anything that is physically challenging. She can spend hours coloring and decorating her room with drawings and pretty pictures. She loves reading her Bible and singing VBS songs with dance moves. Her favorite book is “In case you ever wonder” by Max Lucado. Poppy also loves simple puzzles and board games such as Candy Land and Memory.
Poppy’s adopted parents told us that she is very polite and respectful, especially in public. She is always looking for ways to be a helper. She seeks to please and be rewarded for a job well done. She is very orderly and neat. She keeps her clothes well organized and always makes her bed nicely. She loves to laugh and be silly—and has a loud contagious laugh. Poppy’s favorite color is pink. She loves pancakes and spaghetti (not together!) Her favorite toy is her American Girl doll. Poppy can dress, shower, pick out her clothes, brush her teeth and do her own hair if it’s in braids. If not, she will need some assistance with her hair.
Poppy thrives on a schedule. Week days are always better than weekends since she prefers the routine of going to school. She does like to have some downtime and plays well by herself after a busy day around people.
This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.
Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY, or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you live in WI, please let us know, as the adoption process may be longer and more expensive than what is listed in our paperwork.
If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child. But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future. Please write to us and ask us how to get started! If you are a U.S. citizen living overseas, we may be able to work with you depending on a few details.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet. It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for. If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption. Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family. These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
