Wasatch International Adoption

Nyla – Placed

Description

Meet Nyla!

*Nyla is 8 years old and was adopted internationally when she was 2. If you’re familiar with our program, you’ve probably heard how often a family brings a child home through international adoption only to find the child has medical or behavioral issues that were kept from the family throughout the adoption process.  In this case, Nyla’s family was told she had an orthopedic issue with her feet and no other challenges or disabilities.  Since bringing her home, they have realizedthat Nyla will likely need family assistance for most of her life (and no orthopedic issues with her feet!)  They have made the very difficult decision to partner with Second Chance to find a better fitting family for Nyla.  We are hoping to find a family with no other children under age 11 who has the time to devote to Nyla to help her become her best person.  We will also require that you have a current (or easily updated) home study. Please write to us at [email protected] .

Nyla’s family told us she is a happy, energetic little girl with a bubbly personality.  She really blossoms with positive attention from parents and peers.  She understands love and will often tell her family that she loves them.  Nyla LOVES to swim; she is a great swimmer who is confident and safe in the pool.  We hope that her new family will have access to a pool so she can continue this satisfying activity.  In the summer, she swims every single day.  Nyla enjoys riding her bike with training wheels.  She also plays softball, soccer, and basketball with the local special needs team—she is a kid who really enjoys outside activities!  Her most avid interest, besides swimming, is singing and listening to all genres of music.  She can memorize the lyrics to a song within 2-3 times of listening to it—she has an uncanny ability to memorize.  She also memorizes her board book stories and can recite them back to you as you look at the pictures together.

Nyla is going into the 3rd grade and receives special services.  She is not able to read or write, but recently started drawing straight vertical lines.  She can verbally spell her own name and recognize it in writing.  She knows 4 sight words.  She can sing the alphabet and knows a few letters when you ask her.  She can count almost to 20, and is good at counting objects such as coins and crackers.

Nyla is gentle and kind to those around her including pets.

Nyla eats well and doesn’t have any food concerns other than being lactose intolerant to all dairy including cheese, milk and yogurt.

Please write to us at [email protected] and ask for Nyla’s ‘full profile’ if you’d like to know more about her and our process for being preapproved for a Second Chance adoption.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.  Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, or DE.  If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state to finalize this adoption. If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child.  But we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future.  Please write to us and ask us how to get started!

Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption may qualify for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.

Please allow us at least 2 business days to respond to your email—if it’s been longer than that, please check that you spelled our email address correctly [email protected] and also check your ‘junk’ folder for our response, as sometimes our replies are treated as junk mail.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet.  It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for.  If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption.  Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family.  These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.
