Matthew is a blue-eyed boy and was adopted eastern Europe last November along with a young sister. The younger sister is adapting well, but Matthew is not connecting with his family. His behavior is good, no RAD symptoms, but he is a loner and prefers to be by himself at home. He does not seem connected to his sister who is quite a bit younger so the family believes that Matthew would flourish in a different family. We would want to keep the new family connected to the current family so that when the siblings are older, they are free to pursue a sibling relationship.
Matthew is very small for his age of just having turned 12 and is having medical intervention for this.
Matthew does not have a bad temper, is not violent, does not bully. It is believed that he would do well in a home with several younger siblings.
There are no food issues, Matthew eats everything and likes to eat but he does not overeat or horde food. In school, Matthew is just going into grade 6. He likes to read and when he is home, he is often by himself reading non-fiction books.
Matthew is considered safe with children of all ages. He is good with pets and enjoys the family’s dog.
He understands everything that is said to him in English and is pretty good at being able to communicate in English. In Poland he had English classes in school, so he came with some basic English skills.
Matthew is learning to ride a bike, took swimming lessons and enjoyed that this summer, likes his scooter, playing Legos, drawing. At school they had a program called “Fit Kids” which he enjoyed.
He needs a family who will encourage him to participate in family activities but will let him be quiet if that is the personality that he has. Matthew looks and thinks like a child who is about 8-9. His bone age tests put him at age 8-9. It is hoped that a family who has maybe some children under age 9 would be a better fit for him. Older kids are ok too, but we are hoping for a family with younger ones. This child would make a great son for a family who is ok with his introverted personality and will let him flourish at his own speed. Older children in the home would need to be ok with a brother who is quiet and may not initiate conversation.
