Lara – Placed

Meet Lara!

*Lara recently turned 7 and was adopted with two brothers, one older and one younger than her.  She has a trauma bond with the older brother and as a result has not attached in a healthy way to any of the family.  They saw this was a problem right from the start but their social worker encouraged them to keep the kids together. Lara deeply resents and does not want to be around this brother or her family.  4 years later and things are the worst they’ve ever been.  We agree with them that Lara will likely do great in a new, different family setting where she can be the baby of the family and have limited contact with her brothers until they are older and more mature.  We will ask the new adoptive family to keep in touch with her first family, so the kids can easily find each other when they’re older.  Second Chance is requiring that Lara’s new adoptive family have a current (or easily updated) homestudy, no other kids in the home under age 12 and access to individual educational resources.  If this fits your family, please read the rest of this profile and then contact us for Lara’s additional information—we have school, medical and psych records to share with you.  Write to us at [email protected] .

Lara’s adoptive family told us that she is a fun-loving, sometimes silly, caring little girl who has lots of friends and enjoys play dates and spending time playing barbies and baby dolls with her friends.  She loves little children, especially babies and likes to help care for them.  She enjoysgoing to the park and playing in the snow.  She likes roller skating even though she still needs to work on her balance—and is a trooper who never gives up—she keeps getting back up when she falls and tries, tries again!  Lara enjoys crafts and making jewelry-especially bracelets and necklaces.  As you can see from her pictures, she has big brown eyes and gorgeous thick blond hair.  Her adopted mom says, “She has just about the best laugh I’ve ever heard!”  Lara is a born leader with a strong drive to be the best.  She would like to be a police officer when she grows up.

She enjoys helping cook and clean up the house.  Playing with her friends and going camping are some of her favorite things to do.  When we asked her parents to give us some words that described Lara, they said, “Affectionate, active, outgoing, timid until she warms up, funny, silly and happy”.

Lara is a pasta girl—Mac and cheese and spaghetti are her favorite foods!  She has no food allergies and is willing to try all kinds of new foods.

Lara is attending the 1st grade in public school.  She is an affectionate child who likes to cuddle on the couch, give hugs and receive affection and attention from her family.  She is kind and loving with her friends and enjoys their company.

We recommend that her new adoptive family either have only large pets, or no pets—or, pays special attention to all interactions with Lara until they are confidant, she is able to be kind and gentle.

Lara is a very good sleeper.  She falls asleep quickly and sleeps through the night.  She is always dry at night.  She does not have any toileting issues.

Please write to us at [email protected] for Lara’s additional info and also info on being preapproved for a Second Chance adoption.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. You will need to have a current, or easily-updated home study for this adoption.  Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE. If you live in OR, you may need to travel to the child’s state for finalization of the adoption.  If you have never had a home study before, we cannot help you adopt this child.  But, we would love to share with you the process of starting a home study so you could be approved for a child in the near future.  Please write to us and ask us how to get started!

Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credits.

*To protect the privacy of our waiting children and their families, Second Chance does not share real names for our waiting children on the Internet.  It is our policy to only share a snippet of a waiting child’s details as well as the type of adoptive family we are looking for.  If you fit the POSTED REQUIREMENTS, are home study ready (or can be soon!), and interested in adding this child to your family, please write to us for an honest, in-depth profile on the child including medical, educational, and behavioral information and learn the full story of why this child needs a secondary adoption.  Our program social worker and program director have worked together with the child’s family to carefully set the requirements for the new family.  These requirements are not negotiable, so please honor the needs of this child by not asking us to bend them for you.

We're not around right now. But you can send us an email and we'll get back to you, asap.
