Ellie – Placed
*Ellie just turned 8 and was adopted from an Asian country. We want her in a home with no other children older or younger who are within 2 years of her age 8.
Ellie has been diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. Ellie is a very capable child. She can dress, wash, and feed herself. She can even put her own hair into a pony tail! She can fold and put away her own clothes. She enjoys music and will sway to it and clap her hands to the beat of a song. She enjoys playing with manipulative toys like Legos and Magna-Tiles (colored plastic shapes that have magnets inside for building). She is quite good at building structures using these, all free hand (she has a great imagination). She also enjoys coloring and drawing. She often plays on the swing set and playground.
She is in the 1st grade in school, but not doing much academic work. She mostly works on arts and crafts. She has an IEP based on her abilities, and the teachers and assistants all enjoy having her in class. Her report card says she “comes in happy and is becoming more willing to try each task offered…she seems to enjoy each day”. Ellie mostly communicates with sign language but rarely uses spoken language.
Ellie is safe around pets. Her family has cats and she does not show any danger to them, and is not afraid of them. She also reacts normally toward dogs whenever she’s around them. We want her in a home with no other children older or younger who are within 2 years of her age 8.

This is a private adoption, so a state or foster home study might not work. A state authorized private domestic or international home study is generally required. Due to state laws, we are not able to place this child in CT, MA, NY or DE.
Adoption is a legal process so there will be costs associated. This adoption qualifies for the IRS Adoption Tax Credit.
