Taiwan continues to be a wonderful adoption program and a great option for families interested in adopting children from Asia.  Currently there are many children in orphanages and foster care throughout this country and all need loving homes if they are ever going to have any kind of a future. This program has many good things that make it a great program to consider:

  • Taiwan is a growing program and we have several families preparing their dossiers now, a family getting ready to leave to pick up their child and families that have returned. Those who have returned say that their experience was better than they ever would have hoped for. They have loved the in country facilitators we have and even keep in touch with them after returning home.

  • The stay in Taiwan is shorter….5 to 7 days so it is very easy for both husband and wife to go and get their child. We have some darling children waiting for homes and would love to place them with loving parents.

  • Taiwan is a non Hague country and the dossier is not difficult.  When looking at the children families seem to know their child when they see them, the child they have been longing for, and we proceed to get them pre approved for the adoption. At that time they get their home study completed, and gather all other dossier documents.

  • The timeline for a Taiwan adoption is as follows:

    • Once the dossier is submitted, it takes 4 weeks to be reviewed and translated. Then they set a court date which is about 2 ½ months from that time. After the court date it takes 2 to 4 weeks to get the final ruling. After that you will get a letter to travel but that usually happens about 6 weeks after the final ruling. Generally it takes 5 to 6 months from dossier submission to pick up of the child/children. This is a country that you can adopt siblings and pick them up at the same time. Even though this is a basic timeline, as with all adoption patience is needed during the process.  Working with two governments takes time and even though we do all we can in a timely manner, we must wait for the government to complete their duties.

    • Please note that the length of the process varies depending on the judge that gets that file.  Different judges and the child/ren's orphanage (nursery) location can cause the timeline to be longer/shorter.

We hope this information is helpful to you when making your decision to adopt from Taiwan. Please know that we are here to assist you throughout the complete process and our goal is to make sure you get your child home with you as quickly and safely as possible.  For more information about this wonderful adoption option please contact Kathy Junk at kathy@wiaa.org.

GREAT NEWS!!!!  The adoption tax credit is still available.  Below is the link to the information concerning it.  Please make yourself familiar with it so you can take advantage of the credit when you file your income tax returns.

Families have an exciting opportunity to adopt a child from Taiwan who will be here in the US from July 17-24, 2012.  Families living in California/Los Angeles area are needed for sponsorship.  A family who wishes to adopt one of these children will have to go through the regular adoption process and the child will have to go back to Taiwan at the end of the tour, but committed adoptive families will have an opportunity to come to California and visit with the children. These children reside in a great orphanage that shares in-depth information about them as well as photos.  For more information, please contact Kathy@wiaa.org

NEWSFLASH FOR TAIWAN: We have just been given referral information for four sibling girls from Taiwan. They were born in 04, 05, 06 and 08. All of them have mild mental delays as they lived in a very dysfunctional family and circumstances of poverty. The best scenario would be to keep all four of them together but we know this would be quite a financial hardship for most families. The two middle sisters born in 05 and 06 must remain together however. The youngest may not be adopted alone but could be adopted with either the two middle sisters or the oldest. The oldest sister may be adopted alone. Below are their darling photos. Interested families must already have a current home study. It is possible to use an older home study for pre-approval in some cases. For more information contact Kathy@wiaa.org.
