*Rachel was adopted from an African country when she was almost 7. She is now 10 years old.
After her adoption, it was discovered that she is deaf. She’s picked up American Sign Language, math, and reading very quickly. Rachel loves painting, and drawing. She enjoys helping around the house. She is like a sponge when it comes to learning—she picks up information very quickly. Card games are fun for her, and she likes to laugh and be silly. She also like to play with the family’s dog and laughs when he licks her face! She is a social girl, and wants to involve others in her play. She’s great with little children and would do well in a family who had young cousins or extended family she could interact with. Rachel gets excited when she sees someone signing, and wants to join into the conversation!
Rachel is described by her parents as very smart and observant. As a deaf child, she is highly visual and is constantly watching what’s going on around her. She is very outgoing and enjoys interacting with others. Rachel likes to be neat and tidy.
Rachel is in the 2nd grade, as she had no education at all before her adoption at age 7. She is progressing well. She reads and writes on grade level, and her ASL skills are developing rapidly. She won a math award at the end of last year for being an outstanding math student. She also won the Math Bee. Rachel really enjoys the structure of school and does well in the classroom.
We have more information to share on her, and our process of being approved for her adoption. If you speak ASL in your family and have no other children under age 13, and would like to consider adopting Rachel, write to [email protected] and ask for her “Full Profile”.
